Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst spoke in his press conference ahead of their match away to Excelsior Rotterdam on Sunday which could see the club win their first league title since 1999.

Feyenoord face local rivals Excelsior on Sunday knowing a win will seal a long-awaited league title and ahead of the match Giovanni van Bronckhorst spoke of his pride.

Van Bronckhorst said, ”We know that it is unique to play a championship match after 18 years. You notice the extra attention that we received from the media in the run-up to the game and the most important thing is to win the championship.

”The happiness from the supporters gives us energy. We must keep doing the things like we have done before and we must play to our strengths and win on Sunday.

”We have not won anything yet and we know that if we win on Sunday that the hunt for the title is over.

”I am proud that we are in this position and that we have the possibility to be champions that is fantastic for everyone connected with the club.

”If we do manage to win the league it will give a lot of satisfaction to then be able to celebrate with everyone. We will go for it ”.
