Donny van de Beek is aiming to make a big impact for Netherlands in their European Championship qualifiers with Northern Ireland and Belarus.

Despite his good form for Ajax, Van de Beek has only earned seven caps for the Dutch national team and mostly from the bench. He missed the last two internationals through injury but is aiming to play a role against Northern Ireland and Belarus over the next week.

Davy Propper is out injured and Ronald Koeman must decide whether to start with Marten de Roon or Van de Beek in his midfield.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, van de Beek stated he is finally hoping to make an impact in Oranje, “I am going to do my best and hope for an opportunity that I will have to grasp with both hands.

“I’m actually always there. The coach even called me up last year when I wasn’t playing at Ajax for a while. Then he still has faith in me. I notice that in our conversations. I do not start often and I am not always allowed to substitute. I would like to change that. It is not my intention that it stays at seven international matches.”

Van de Beek believes he can slot into the midfield alongside Frenkie de Jong and Georginio Wijnaldum, “I don’t know what the coach isthinking, but I do see a midfield with Frenkie, Wijnaldum and me, of course.”
