The 17-year-old made the move to Liverpool from PEC Zwolle last month but the transfer is still waiting for the green light from FIFA.
For that reason, van den Berg was forced to sit out as Liverpool hammered Tranmere 6-0.
Ki-Jana Hoever did make an appearance in the second half, but Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum were both absent as they have not yet returned to training.
Van den Berg will need to wait for his debut but there are still six friendlies to come against Bradford City, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Sporting club de Portugal, Napoli and Olympique Lyon before the season starts.
