In the past few weeks there has been plenty of talk surrounding van den Brom’s future at AZ, with his contract expiring in the summer. He was heavily linked to Maccabi Tel Aviv in January, but those rumours were eventually shot down.

Now van den Brom’s future at AZ Alkmaar has been secured, with the coach activating a clause which extends his current deal until the summer of 2018.

Van den Brom took over at AZ in 2014 when Marco van Basten gave up his position at the club, and guided them to third and four spot finishes over the past few years. The club is currently seventh this season, but are in the KNVB Cup semi-finals and the last 32 of the Europe League.

Speaking to the AZ website, van den Brom said, “I am extremely pleased that we continue together.

“To this day I work with pleasure at this club. We are having a great project working with the staff, the management and the players.”
