The 27-year-old left Vitesse at the end of the season after his contract expired, and despite holding hopes of moving abroad, the defender has decided to move to Feyenoord on a three-year-deal.
Technical director Martin van Geel told the official Feyenoord website, “Van der Heijden has played at the highest level in the Netherlands for years and, at 27, he is now stronger than ever. He can compete, and his age and experience mean that he can help other players develop.”
Van der Heijden spent four-years with Vitesse after leaving Ajax in 2011, and made 123 Eredivisie appearances for the Arnhem club. He joins as a replacement for Joris Mathijsen and Khalid Boulahrouz, who both left De Kuip this summer.
The centre back will wear the number 6 shirt.
A good move. provides depth and experience for the backline. Does he now start with Kongolo moving to LB? it will be interesting to see what else feyenoord does this summer. I expect some sells yet so they will have money. Kramer as a striker would be an improvement-some rumors about this, Vlaar coming back would be awesome for the second half of the season. maybe a bright young start at RB? Still time to get better. we have to be a top 3 team next season!
