Dwight Lodoweges side started the four team tournament with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to England on Wednesday and the coach decided to ring the changes for the tie against USA with Dennis van der Heijden one of the players coming into the starting line-up, along with Pelle van Amersfoort and Kenneth Paal.
Netherlands began the game brightly but found themselves behind after nine minutes when Jeremy Ebobis nodded a corner past Rody de Boer. On 37 minutes, van der Heijden equalised with a finish at the near post and the ADO Den Haag striker then added a quick second to put the Oranje in front. However, both sides went into the break level when Ebobis headed in.
Ebobis netted again before the hour mark to put USA back in front before PSV midfielder Kenneth Paal equalised after good work by Patrick Joosten. Van der Heijden then decided the game in Netherlands favour, firstly completing his hat-trick on 83 minutes before adding his fourth in injury time.
Netherlands play their final game of the tournament on Monday with a tie against Germany.
