The centre-back was a free agent after leaving Swansea City at the end of the season, and has now sealed a move to Germany.
Speaking to the Arminia Bielefeld website, Van der Hoorn said, “I had very good conversations with the managers who finally convinced me. I also had contact with other clubs, but in the end, I had the best feeling with Arminia. I am very happy to be here because when I was young I dreamed I think I will ever play in the Bundesliga.
“When my family heard that I was going to play here, they were very happy that I was not going to play further away from home but closer. That makes coming by much easier for everyone.”
The former Ajax defender made 106 league appearances for Swansea City.
