According to the Sunday Times, Edwin van der Sar is being considered by Manchester United for their Director of Football role.

Manchester United are looking to appoint their first director of football this summer and have a list of candidates which includes van der Sar, who spent time at the Premier League giants as a player.

The Sunday Times reports that Paul Mitchell of RB Leipzig was the frontrunner but he is no longer being considered. Manchester United may now turn their attention to van der Sar, who is currently an executive with Ajax.

Van der Sar still has more than a year left on his contract with Ajax and told Sky Sports earlier this year that he was hoping for a longer stay.

Ajax may also be about to lose Marc Overmars with links to Arsenal still doing the rounds in the English press.
