Edwin van der Sar wants Ajax to constantly have the success they did during the 2018/19 campaign.

The Ajax general manager understands that the club is viewed with some jealousy from other Eredivisie club’s due to its financial position. He told Fox Sports, “That we buy players for a lot of money, that we have so many sponsors and that the stadium is always full. That’s right,”

Van der Sar is now aiming to take Ajax to the next level and wants to replicate their run to the Champions League semi-finals on a regular basis, “We look up. We look at Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid: we want to experience the year 2018/2019 more often. Everything we do is based on that, because we can live up to it.”

That ambition is still there despite the club taking a hit due to the coronavirus, “The ambition is still there, although we are now talking about a gap year, but it is a gap year that we want to emerge stronger.”

Van der Sar also thinks the virus could benefit Ajax in the transfer window, “We can now keep players even longer. Then it can also be a favourable factor.”
