van der vaartVan der Vaart is set to leave Hamburg this summer, with the club facing a play-off against Greuther Furth in order to avoid relegation. The midfielder is a high earner at the club, and Hamburg wan’t the Dutchman off the wage bill, while Van der Vaart himself doesn’t fancy playing in the second tier of German football.

A return to Ajax has been speculated, but Dirk Kuyt has seemingly indicated that Van der Vaart is set to follow him, and Wesley Sneijder to Istanbul, but to Besiktas and not Fenerbahce or Galatasaray.

Kuyt is quoted by Fanatik saying, “I have spoke to him, soon he will come to Turkey, but not to Fenerbahce.”

The newspaper also states that the deal for Van der Vaart to join Besiktas is “Very close”.

Besiktas finish their domestic season on Saturday, and still have the chance to pip Galatasaray to 2nd place and a Champions League place.
