The 31-year-old is coming into the twilight years of his career, and with his place no longer assured in the Netherlands squad, Van der Vaart has given his lowdown on the players who could replace him.
Speaking to the Metro, Van der Vaart singled out Ajax’s Davy Klaassen, PSV’s Georginio Wijnaldum, and especially Twente’s Hakim Ziyech for special praise.
Van der Vaart said on Klaassen, “Klaassen is a real Ajax footballer. He can score, is dynamic and smart. A midfielder you see a lot in our time”
On Wijnaldum, he added, “He has had a good World Cup and developed well. Wijnaldum is a nice guy and a dynamic football player. He is wise and plays with guts. He dared to go from Feyenoord to PSV. That Says a lot about his personality.”
However it is 21-year-old Hakim Ziyech that Van der Vaart is most excited about, “He’s really something special,”
“Wonderful trick’s and a great shot. He only scores beautiful goals. It was a good choice for him to go to FC Twente and not immediately choose England”
after Başaçıkoğlu, i doubt players of mixed descent going to to choose Netherlands. i mean, always thought i remember it was the other way around; however, would love to see him switch to ORANJE
