Virgil van Dijk has praised his teammates after Netherlands defeated England 3-1 on Thursday to book their place in the Nations League final.

Netherlands fell behind to a Marcus Rashford penalty but Matthijs de Ligt equalised in the second half before a Kyle Walker own goal and a Quincy Promes strike made it 3-1 after extra-time.

Speaking to NOS, Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk said, “I think we have shown excellent football at times. We were patient and also created good opportunities. We just have to score, especially in the first half. We were defensive too. We worked hard for each other, but were unhappy with that penalty. While they hadn’t really created anything yet. “
