Van Dijk has been exceptional for Southampton so far this season and his form is beginning to turn heads around Europe, despite the fact that the defender signed a new six-year-deal in May.
According to The Sun, Liverpool are lining up a £40 million bid to sign both Van Dijk and young left-back Sam McQueen in January. Jurgen Klopp sees the Dutchman as the perfect centre-back to shore up his defence and solidify his squad ahead of a push for the Premier League title.
Van Dijk joined Southampton in 2013 from Celtic for £13 million with the 25-year-old making 45 appearances for the Saints since then, scoring three times.
While you never know for certain, major deals usually do not happen in the winter transfer window – and buying Van Dijk can rightly be considered a significant deal.
My guess is that he will be sold next summer but there will definitely be more than one club interested.
I think he’ll be improving a lot in the coming seasons
