The Liverpool centre-back had already been named the Champions League defender of the season during the draw for the competition’s Group Stages.
The 28-year-old then beat off competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the big award of the night. The UEFA Player of the season.
It caps a wonderful year for the Netherlands captain, who lifted the Champions League trophy and also guided his country to the Nations League final.
