After a late challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Saturday, Van Dijk was forced off ten minutes into the Merseyside Derby.
A day later, Liverpool confirmed that Van Dijk had suffered a serious knee injury and will have to undergo surgery. He will now be on the sideline for months and it will be a race for the Dutch national team captain to be fit for the European Championships.
Taking to social media, Van Dijk released a statement, “I am fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to come back as soon as possible. Despite the disappointment, I strongly believe that there is an opportunity in a setback. With the help of God, I will make sure that I will be better, fitter and stronger than ever before.”
Van Dijk ended the statement with, “I’ll be back.”
Wishing Virgil van Dijk a speedy recovery and a quick return to his awesome best.
