Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to NOS after the late 3-2 defeat to Germany on Sunday.

Netherlands started poorly and found themselves 2-0 down at the break but they fought back to 2-2 in the second half before falling to a 90th minute loss.

Van Dijk said after the game, “We knew that we still have a long way to go and it shows again tonight. This is sour, very sour.

“We were searching in the first half. They had a lot of movement and with us it was not well organized. After the break, we picked it up strongly. It also looked good on the defensive and Frenkie de Jong played more from midfield.

“We came back so well. Then you have to grab at least one point. I’m sorry it didn’t work out. “
