Louis van Gaal has questioned Frenkie de Jong’s decision to join Barcelona this summer due to the midfield options at the Nou Camp.

The 22-year-old’s move to the Catalan giants was confirmed in January with Barcelona paying Ajax up to €86 million.
Speaking to German magazine 11freunde, Van Gaal has questioned De Jong’s decision and believes he may struggle for game time.
He said, “Frenkie de Jong is 22 and goes to Barcelona. But in midfield Rakitic, Busquets, Vidal and Arthur are playing. What role will De Jong play at Barça?
“Of course he is intelligent. But then he has to wonder what role he could have played if he stayed with Ajax.”
