Van Gaal has been critical of Sneijder’s form since he joined Galatasaray last January, and even dropped him from the national side after a string of poor performances.
Now the Dutch coach has confirmed that Chelsea are interested in signing the midfielder, and has urged his star to re-unite with ex-Inter coach Jose Mourinho.
He told Turkish paper Vatan, “I know Chelsea and Jose Mourinho want Sneijder,”
“In my opinion, if possible Sneijder should leave Galatasaray and join Chelsea. Playing under Mourinho again would improve his performances and help him regain his form for the national team.”
Sneijder starred for his national side in the 2-0 win over Turkey on Tuesday, scoring the second goal as Netherlands finished their World Cup qualifying campaign.
However the 29 year old still has to convince Van Gaal that he deserves a place in the squad for next summer’s tournament in Brazil, with only Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie, and Kevin Strootman assured of a place.
