Van Ginkel joined Chelsea from Vitesse in the summer for around £8 million after an outstanding season for the Arnhem club, that saw him break into the Netherlands national team.
However in only his fourth game for the club, the 21-year-old injured his anterior cruciate ligament, and was expected to miss the rest of the season.
On Wednesday, Van Ginkel informed followers on his instagram account that he had returned to training with Chelsea’s youth team after a faster than expected recovery.
Last Month Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho stated that it was unlikely that the Dutchman would feature for the first team again this season, and may have to make do with appearances for the reserves as he regains full match fitness.
Van Ginkel had been hoping to be back in time for the Summers World Cup, but with a lack of playing time likely, Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal will look elsewhere to fill his squad.
