Marco van Ginkel is finally closing in on a return to action after close to two years out but he is unsure whether he will remain at Chelsea past this summer.

The 27-year-old’s last appearance on a pitch was back in May 2018 on loan with PSV Eindhoven. Since then, Van Ginkel has struggled with a cruciate ligament injury and constant setbacks.

Van Ginkel is now returning to fitness and is training in Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium. Speaking to PSV TV he said, “The boys who live nearby can train in the stadium. So this is ideal for me. You only have to train on your own, so it is a bit boring. But I also trained in a park and the field is a lot less there. It’s top notch in Stamford Bridge.”

The midfielder’s contract with Chelsea expires this summer and he is yet to hear anything from the club on his future, “We haven’t had contact about that yet, but other things are of course more important now. I will hear it when the moment arrives.”

PSV were linked with another move in January for Van Ginkel, but he was not fit enough, “I still have contact with people at PSV, but not about a possible winter period transfer.”
