Van Gaal has been heavily criticised by fans of Manchester United and the media after some sluggish performances recently, including the 0-0 draw with PSV last week.
Writing in his weekly column for AD, Willem van Hanegem has also taken a pop at the Manchester United boss, who he believes takes the “fun” out of football.
Van Hanegem wrote, “If I see that team play, then shoot the tears in my eyes,”
“If you have to spend 300 million euros, you would not buy such a bunch of cake bakers?”
On van Gaal’s defensive tactics, he added, “Maybe it does not matter to others, as long as it yields points. I do not think so. I am a lover. Van Gaal takes the fun away from the people.”
The former Feyenoord great concluded, “Van Gaal is a good trainer when his team book’s results, because then everything is accepted. Look at Orange in the World Cup.”
