The KNVB confirmed De Boer’s appointment on Wednesday, with the 50-year-old taking over until 2022.
De Boer was assistant to Van Marwijk with the national team, and he believes the KNVB have made a good choice.
Van Marwijk told Voetbal International, “If the KNVB wants a young national coach and also one for the long term, I think they have made an excellent choice with Frank.
“Frank has a bond with this group of players, but can also stand above it if necessary. He already had that as an assistant. In addition, he is simply a good trainer. I don’t know why things went wrong abroad. But I do know that he has performed excellently with Dutch players by becoming champion with Ajax four times in a row, under difficult circumstances.”
if even Van Marwijk endorsed this appointment then it must surely be very good thing. Van Marwijk and De Boer partnership that led to the runner-up back in WC2010.
