Coach Louis van Gaal has opted to call up Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer, and Vitesse Arnhem’s Davy Propper to replace the injured duo. Fer was in the provisional squad but was left out from the final selection with his club currently in poor form.

Propper has been on great form for Vitesse this season since taking up the role of Marco van Ginkel, who left for Chelsea in the summer, and the 22 year old deserves his first national team call up.

On Monday, Dirk Kuyt also dropped out of the squad, with Siem de Jong added, and the Ajax captain is now likely to begin both friendlies up front.

The Dutch travel to Belgium to face Japan on Saturday, before hosting Colombia three days later in the Amsterdam Arena. Both opponents have qualified for next summer’s World Cup, and will be good tests for Van Gaal’s side.
