Robin van Persie netted twice to lead Feyenoord to a 4-3 victory at PEC Zwolle.

After losing to NAC Breda last weekend, Giovanni van Bronckhorst welcomed Van Persie back into the starting line-up ahead of Jens Toornstra.

It proved to be an excellent move as Van Persie opened the scoring after ten minutes, firing past Diederik Boer after a Steven Berghuis cutback. The 34-year-old then made it 2-0 five minutes later, finishing a cross by Jean-Paul Boetius, who capitalised on a bad ball by Ryan Thomas in midfield.

Six minutes after the break, Karim El Ahmadi’s strike wasn’t dealt with by Boer, who could only push it into to the net to make it 3-0. However, Mustafa Saymak pulled one back for PEC Zwolle a minute later.

Tonny Vilhena seemed to end any chance of a comeback with Feyenoord’s fourth on 75 minutes but Piotr Parzyszek made it an exciting end. After a silly foul by Boetius, the Polish striker made it 4-2 from the penalty spot before he scored again from a free kick in the 88th minute.

Feyenoord held on to their lead to move above Utrecht into fourth while PEC Zwolle sit 7th.
