The veteran has so far been restricted to cameo’s from the bench but he was selected at number ten by Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the visit of Heracles.
Feyenoord struggled to assert themselves in the first half and they were given a huge scare early in the second with Kristoffer Peterson’s strike tipped onto the bar by Brad Jones.
Moments after the save, the ball fell onto the left foot of Van Persie just outside the Heracles box and he found the bottom corner with a deflected strike. It was his second goal since returning to Rotterdam and he left the pitch to a standing ovation with fifteen minutes left.
Heracles pushed for an equaliser near the end but a nervy-looking Feyenoord held on for the victory which moves them back to fourth. Heracles sit 12th.
