Robin van Persie’s double helped Feyenoord defeat NAC Breda and move up to third in the table.

After defeat in their opening league game against De Graafschap, Feyenoord had won their last two league games and after 24 minutes they took the lead against NAC. Jerry St Juste took a quick free-kick which led to Steven Berghuis crossing for Robin van Persie to net the opener from close range.

Feyenoord did not build on the lead, though and on 34 minutes, Tyrell Malacia brought down Mikhail Rosheuvel in the penalty area and Gianluca Nijholt scored from the spot to make it 1-1.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst had seen enough and replaced the poor Sam Larsson at the break with Mo El Hankouri coming on. Feyenoord laid siege to the NAC goal but found an in-form Benjamin van Leer in their way. The on-loan Ajax goalkeeper kept out efforts from Berghuis, Jens Toornstra and Jan-Arie van der Heijden.

Just after the hour mark, van Leer was finally beaten in unfortunate circumstances. Van Persie’s header came back off the bar and hit the NAC goalkeeper before crossing the line to make it 2-1. Ten minutes later, Van Persie made it three, poking the ball past van Leer after a header from Eric Botteghin.

Tonny Vilhena made it 4-1 before former Feyenoord striker Mitchell Te Vrede pulled back another consolation for the visitors.

Feyenoord climb to 3rd in the table while NAC are second bottom.
