The Manchester United star was forced to miss Tuesday’s training session, and coach Louis van Gaal will make a last minute decision on whether his star man will play.
Van Gaal stated, “Only on the last day I make a decision, If he does not play, comes the turn for somebody else. Robin will definitely come to Turkey, because leaders have a job off the field.”
A replacement will not be called for Van Persie, leaving Dirk Kuyt as the only viable replacement up front if he can not make it, after Ricky van Wolfswinkel was left out of the squad.
The injury will come as a frustration to Van Persie, who lies only two goals behind all time top scorer for the national team, Patrick Kluivert, and would have wanted to break the record with the two games.
Netherlands may have already qualified for next summers World Cup, but winning the next two games is crucial as they hope to be among the highest seeded teams for the tournament.
