For the first time since February Robin van Persie took part in group training today as the striker closes in on his Manchester United return.

van prvpThe 31-year-old sustained an ankle injury against Swansea City on the 21st of February and has been ruled out ever since, missing six games for Manchester United and the two Netherlands matches last month.

However Van Persie took to twitter today to announce his comeback to training, tweeting, “Back to training with the group today. Was a great session. Happy to be fit and able to play again. Looking forward to my next game.”

The derby match with Manchester City this Sunday probably comes too early for the striker, but six days later Van Persie could be back for the key away trip to Chelsea.

Van Persie will be eager to get back into the first team, with several media outlets suggesting that Manchester United are ready to sell the Netherlands captain after an unimpressive season. After only 10 goals in 26 games, Louis van Gaal is said to be considering the strikers future, and Van Persie has seven games to prove his worth to the Premier League club.
