Feyenoord forward Robin van Persie still isn’t ready to give up on a return to the Dutch national team but admits another cap for Oranje is unlikely.

The 35-year-old hasn’t featured for Netherlands since the 4-0 defeat to France last year in Paris and Ronald Koeman has admitted he is unlikely to be selected again.

However, speaking to FOX Sports, Van Persie admitted he isn’t ready to give up, “I have said before: I will never say thank you (refuse a call-up), but the coach has been pretty clear in the media. It is going to be a very difficult story, in which he is clear.

“I do not assume that I’m being called, because he has clearly indicated it. I’m open to it, if he calls me, we’ll have to watch how he sees it. See if it suits me at that moment, based on which we have to make a choice. “
