Robin van Persie’s late header handed Feyenoord a 1-0 victory over Dick Advocaat’s Utrecht.

Advocaat took charge of struggling Utrecht this week and sent his side out in De Kuip looking to gain some confidence and much-needed points.

Feyenoord dominated from the start and created several chances without finding the net. Goalkeeper David Jensen denied both Steven Berghuis and Robin van Persie, who was wasteful in front of goal in the first half.

Utrecht improved in the second half and Joris van Overeem passed up an excellent chance to stun the home side. Giovanni van Bronckhorst turned to Nicolai Jorgensen to break the deadlock but the Dane missed a great chance, putting a header over the bar.

Eventually, Feyenoord found the winning goal in the 87th minute as Van Persie headed past Jensen after some great build-up play involving Jeremiah st Juste and Berghuis.

Feyenoord remains third in the table and gains confidence ahead of next weeks clash with Vitesse. Utrecht are 15th.
