The Telegraph believe that with Arsenal unsure on the future of ex-Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen, and with ex-Ajax defender Jan Verthongen said to be considering his Tottenham future, if they miss out on the Champions League, both clubs are looking to sign Veltman from…….Ajax.
Veltman has been a revelation since breaking into the Ajax first team this season, with the defender handed his first Netherlands cap against Colombia in November by Louis van Gaal.
His eye catching performances at the Amsterdam Arena led Ajax to extend the 22-year-old’s contract until 2018, but it has not stopped speculation of a summer move.
Ajax director Marc Overmars stated in February that he would do everything to stop Veltman from leaving the club this summer, including barricading the doors. With only one years experience in the Eredivisie, it is unlikely that Veltman will look to leave Ajax this summer, but with the defender likely to be a part of Netherlands World Cup squad, the queue of clubs looking to sign the youngster will grow.
