However Veltman has stressed to AT5 that he will remain with Ajax, “I continue with Ajax for the next two years. I’m not ready to go abroad.”

The 22-year-old is in his breakthrough season in the first team of Ajax, replacing Toby Alderwiereld, who left the club for Atletico Madrid in the summer. After a number of impressive performances in the Eredivisie, and Champions League, Veltman was handed his Netherlands debut in the friendly with Colombia.

Ajax will now open contract talks with Veltman, who’s current deal ends in 2017, over an improved deal which they hope will convince the defender to commit to the club.
