The Italian boss was obviously asked about the situation that Netherlands find themselves in after sacking Danny Blind.

Ventura said, ”As to the situation that the Dutch national team find themselves in. I believe you can’t comment from an outsiders perspective because you do not know how things are.

”It is clear that they are not in as strong position as they were in recent years. When a country like the Netherlands in not present at a European Championship (Euro 2016) and is running the risk of not going to the World Cup in Russia 2018 then there is something not right.

”The Netherlands have taught is that if you are in a downward spiral that you must give your all and try to move forward I hope that they can do that.

”I only saw some of the game against Bulgaria last Saturday because the TV signal was bad but I saw an eager team that had problems and maybe it was also psychological for the players to experience a difficult run. I saw little conviction and self-assurance from the Netherlands in comparison to previous games they have played ”.
