Verhaegh played for VVV-Venlo, PSV, AGOVV, FC Den Bosch, Vitesse, FC Augsburg and VfL Wolfsburg, before he joined Twente in the summer of 2019.
The right-back barely played in Enschede due to injuries and has now decided to hang up his boots. He also made three appearances for Netherlands, including a start against Mexico in the 2014 World Cup.
Speaking to Fox Sports, Verhaegh said, “I am happy with the career that I have had and look back on many beautiful moments. Ultimately I think that the Netherlands was beautiful, but that I have known my best years abroad and have my best football there My period in Augsburg was definitely the best. I look back on it with pleasure. “
