Vincent Vermeij’s injury time goal saw Heracles come from behind to beat Roda JC 2-1 in Almelo.

The visitors went into the game as the only club in the Eredivisie without a single point this season, but their 5-0 win over Capelle in the KNVB Cup gave them some confidence heading to Almelo.

In the opening few minutes, Heracles were inches away from taking the lead with Jamiro Monteiro hitting the woodwork. Soon after, Roda JC got their first chance of the game and Mitchell Paulisson headed Ard van Peppen’s cross into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Heracles went in search of an equaliser before the break but Paul Gladon, Brahim Darri and Lerin Duarte all failed to net good chances as Roda went into the break ahead.

Early in the second half, Heracles did level the score through Robin Propper, who volleyed into the net from close range just a few moments after hitting the post.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw but in injury time, substitute Vincent Vermeij netted a winning goal which keeps Roda JC rooted to the bottom of the table. Heracles climb to 10th.
