bruma svThe Germans are looking to improve their defensive options following the departure of Naldo to Bundesliga rivals Schalke 04. Bruma impressed earlier in the season when PSV took on Wolfsburg in the Champions league. In addition, he had a solid season in the Eredivise and has previous Bundesliga experience after a stint at Hamburg SV. Wolfsburg see Bruma as the perfect option to slot alongside Dante in the heart of their defence and, as a result, is top of their wish list.

Inter Milan were in pole position to sign Bruma, as early as last week, with Bruma holding preliminary talks. However, the Italian club needs to sell players before any potential transfers can be finalised in order to meet financial fair play criteria. Therefore, the transfer has stalled and Wolfsburg are looking to pounce.

Wolfsburg has the funds to complete the transfer having sold a number of high profile players last summer, including Kevin De Bruyne and Ivan Perisic, for a total of €101 (£80) million. Therefore, the reported €20 million fee for Bruma would not represent much of a stumbling block. Bruma is aware of the wolves interest but has not held any talks, but it seems only a matter of time.

The downside of a move to Wolfsburg, over Inter Milan, is that the wolves will not be competing in Europe next season having finished a disappointing eight. Nevertheless, Bruma might be willing to sacrifice Europe for the greater financial package Wolfsburg can provide.
