Feyenoord midfielder Tonny Vilhena has been called up to the Netherlands squad after the injury suffered by Wesley Sneijder on Friday.

vilhena feeSneijder was taken off at half-time in the 4-1 win over Belarus on Friday night and after the game, Danny Blind confirmed the midfielder had suffered a hamstring injury, which is set to rule him out of the tie against France on Monday. Blind has now decided to draft Feyenoord midfielder Tonny Vilhena into the squad.

A statement on the KNVB website read, “Coach Danny Blind has added Tonny Vilhena to the squad of the Dutch team on Saturday. The call-up of the Feyenoord midfielder is related to the hamstring injury suffered by Wesley Sneijder.

“The addition of Vilhena, who on Saturday afternoon will report to the squad in Amsterdam, takes the squad up to 24 players.”

Netherlands face France in the Amsterdam Arena on Monday with both nations locked on four points from their opening two World Cup qualifiers.
