Janssen’s excellent form has earned the striker his first call up to the national team, with Danny Blind including him in his provisional squad for the upcoming friendlies with England and France.
After netting his 18th and 19th goals of the season on Saturday, Janssen spoke to the NOS and revealed that his target for the season was to score only 10 goals.
Janssen said, ”Tonight’s game for me was the same as all others I want to help my team with goals and assists. I am of course delighted to be included in the provisional national team squad but tonight’s game was a reward for the entire team”.
”I have no idea where this run will end but we are happy as a team and we have only lost one game since the winter break and if we carry on in this form we can realize our ambitions of achieving European football.
”I am not setting myself specific targets of goals at the start of the season I gave myself the target of scoring 10 due to the fact that I came from the Dutch first division and you do not know what to expect and also needing to adapt but I must say that it has exceeded my own expectations and naturally I had belief in myself.
“After the 10 goals I said to myself that the pressure is now off and just carry on enjoying my football”
Vincent Janssen was asked if he expected a call up to the provisional national team squad .He stated the following, “I did not expect anything because I was completely unaware of when the provisional squad would be announced”
“People had mentioned it in an around the club so I was aware of an eventual possibility of a call up, but I did not expect it to happen so quickly.
”It’s a great reward for all my hard work when I first heard the news it was like a dream . It’s a dream I have had my whole career to play for the national team and the opportunity is really close now so I will wait and see when the official squad in announced on Friday.
”I am just delighted to be in the provisional squad that shows I am appreciated . I really hope to be included in the final squad but it is up to the national team manger Danny Blind.”
