Vitesse Arnhem’s title challenge took another big hit as they were held to a drab 0-0 draw by rock bottom ADO Den Haag on Friday night.

vitVitesse had fallen behind Ajax after failing to win any of their last three matches, but they started as heavy favourites against manager-less ADO Den Haag, who sacked Maurice Steijn earlier in the week.

However ADO clearly looked more organised under Henk Fraser, and Vitesse struggled to break their visitors down in a first half short of any clear cut chances.

In the second half  it was the visitors who came close to opening the scoring as Piet Velthuizen had to produce a good stop  to deny Danny Bakker’s effort after a clever flick by Mike van Duinen.

Vitesse’s best chances came in stoppage time, with Mike Havenaar hitting the post, before Frank van der Struijk saw his header brilliantly saved by Coutinho.

With no win in four games, Vitesse could find themselves seven points behind leaders Ajax by the end of the weekend. At the other end of the table ADO Den Haag will be happy with the point, although it is not enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.
