A double from Gaston Pereiro handed PSV Eindhoven a 2-0 win over Vitesse.

pereiro-de-jongOn his birthday, Phillip Cocu sent his side out in Arnhem looking for a much needed win after their defeat in the KNVB Cup midweek. Gaston Pereiro replaced the injured Luciano Narsingh and the Uruguayan opened the scoring after only 12 minutes. The winger latched onto Bart Ramselaar’s pass before cutting in from the left and firing past Eloy Room.

PSV maintained control after the opening goal but despite their lengthy spell of possession they couldn’t net a second goal, and Vitesse remained dangerous on the counter. Just after the hour mark the hosts nearly drew level but Milot Rashica’s strike came back off the post.

In injury time PSV sealed the three points with Pereiro finishing off a swift counter attack. The win lifts PSV up to third while Vitesse drop to seventh.
