Vitesse went into the match in a disappointing 12th place after failing to win in the last three games, and only an excellent Eloy Room save from Alex Schalk and then Jules Reimerink stopped the away side from taking the lead.
Vitesse’s first opportunity fell to Valeri Kazaishvili, but the midfielder’s shot was cleared off the line. After 41 minutes the home side did break the deadlock with Marko Vejinovic’s free kick beating Mickey van der Hart.
Five minutes into the second half Abiola Dauda pounced on Davy Propper’s miscued shot to double Vitesse’s lead, but the home side could not hold on for the victory.
With fifteen minutes to go Vitesse left back Rochdi Achenteh lost the ball to Alex Schalk, and the forward punished the mistake with a fine shot into the corner to pull one back for Go Ahead Eagles. Then on 83 minutes Mawouna Amevor headed past Room to make it 2-2, and the away side could have nicked the win late on, but Jeffrey Rijsdijk missed a glorious opportunity.
The final whistle was met with discontent from the home crowd, but the point lifts Vitesse up to 11th while Go Ahead Eagles remain 14th.
