Vitesse dominated from the kick off, and were rewarded with a goal after 13 minutes, as Christian Atsu chipped the ball to the back post where Mike Havenaar had a simple header past Filip Kurto.
On 28 minutes Roda JC were reduced to ten men when Roly Bonevacia was adjudged to bring down Mike Havenaar just outside the box, and as he was the last man the referee had no choice than to show the red card.
The resulting free kick was excellently lifted into the top corner by Marko Vejinovic to make it 2-0 for the home side.
Vitesse had a number of chances with their numerical advantage but had to wait until the 76th minute to find the third goal, with Havenaar finishing cooly after a nice pass from Davy Propper.
The win moves Vitesse temporarily up to 2nd, and five points behind leaders Ajax, while Roda JC remain bottom, and are now six points from safety.
