The home side started the season well but the wheels have come off recently and they went into the game on the back of two defeats. Vitesse, on the other hand, were unbeaten in five league games and the confidence was evident as they dominated from the start.
On 14 minutes, Milot Rashica opened the scoring, sliding in Navarone Foor’s cross at the back post. After 36 minutes, Bryan Linssen doubled the visitors lead from Fankaty Dabo’s cross.
The chances of a Heerenveen comeback were ended in the 50th minute when Foor latched onto Linssen’s cross before squeezing a shot under Martin Hansen. Tim Matavz sealed the simple victory in the 72nd minute, firing in from close range after some more static defending by Heerenveen.
Vitesse rise to third while Heerenveen slide to seventh.
