Vitesse Arnhem have confirmed the signing of midfielder Keisuke Honda on a deal until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has been looking for a new club since leaving Melbourne Victory at the end of last season. He trained with former club VVV Venlo in the summer and openly flirted with clubs via Twitter.

However, Honda began training with Vitesse last week and the club have now confirmed his arrival on a contract until the end of the season.

Honda told the Vitesse website, “It has been a while since I played football in the Netherlands. Hopefully the football fans in the Netherlands still remember me. Anyway, I will do everything to impress. I want to be important for the team and look forward to playing in the stadium and for the fans. It is also a nice extra that after VVV-Venlo I can play again in the yellow and black.”

The Japanese midfielder spent a year with VVV Venlo before spells with CSKA Moscow, AC Milan and Pachuca before joining Melbourne Victory in 2018. He is reunited with his former CSKA boss Leonid Slutsky in Arnhem.

Honda will be able to make his debut once a work permit is acquired.
