Vitesse Arnhem defeated Dundalk 2-1 on Thursday night to progress in the Europa Conference League. Vitesse progress 4-3 on aggregate.

Vitesse could only manage a 2-2 draw in Arnhem last week, leaving the tie on a knife-edge going into the second leg. Lois Openda was suspended so Oussama Darfalou came into the line-up.

After only 37 seconds, Michael Duffy had the ball in the net for Dundalk, but Vitesse were saved by the linesman’s flag. Goalkeeper Markus Schubert then saved well to deny Patrick Hoban and Patrick McEleney.

Vitesse were playing poorly but they took the lead in the 28th minute through Matus Bero, who tapped into the net after Nikolai Frederiksen had an effort saved. Nine minutes later, Yann Gboho doubled Vitesse’s lead from a Frederiksen pass.

Bero and Frederiksen had chances to add more goals for Vitesse but they couldn’t and in the 71st minute, Hoban pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot. Sondre Tronstad was penalised for the foul.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Vitesse held on to take the victory and they now face Anderlecht in the next round.
