Vitesse Arnhem defeated RKC Waalwijk 1-0 on Sunday thanks to striker Oussama Darfalou.

RKC were certain to be relegated last season before the campaign was ended early and relegation postponed. Fred Grim’s side got another chance in the Eredivisie and they looked for a good start on Sunday as they hosted Vitesse.

However, the visitors now managed by Timo Letsch were the better side from the start and they caused RKC goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou problems. Darfalou also saw a header cleared off the line by Vurnon Anita.

On the stroke of half-time, Vitesse did have the lead as Darfalou fired an excellent low strike past Lamprou.

It could have been 1-1 early in the second half, but Saïd Bakari fired a great chance wide. At the other end, Oussama Tannane came close to making it 2-0 but he was denied by Lamprou.

In the 3rd minute of injury time, Vitesse’s Jacob Rasmussen almost headed past his own goalkeeper, but Remko Pasveer was aware and RKC did not get an equaliser.
