Vitesse Arnhem has climbed to 11th in the table after a 2-1 victory over Emmen.

In midweek, Vitesse went out of the cup after a penalty shootout loss to amateur side Kozakken Boys.

Phillip Cocu was eager for his side to bounce back but it was Emmen who had the ball in the net first through Mark Diemers. However, the offside flag saved the hosts.

In the 26th minute, Gabriel Vidovic got the ball at his feet and he netted from close range to put Vitesse in front. Just before the break, Maximilian Wittek doubled the lead with a free-kick that found a way past Mickey van der Hart.

Emmen did pull one back in the second half when Diemers saw his strike fly in off a deflection. However, Vitesse managed to hold on for the three points.

Vitesse rises up to 11th while Emmen is 17th.
