Vitesse have managed to snare the 20-year-old on a free transfer because Fortes was only on an amateur contract at RKC, and the forward has now signed a two-and-a-half year deal in Arnhem.
Fortes joined RKC in the summer after a failed adventure in Finland with PS Kemi, and the youngster went on to make ten appearances for the club, scoring once. The Eerste Divisie club had been wishing to tie Fortes down to a professional contract, but they were hampered by finances and that allowed Vitesse to swoop.
The deal is perfect for Vitesse, who now look to keep in control of their finances by only signing players on free deals or loans. Fortes is expected to start in the clubs reserve team as coach Peter Bosz already has Zakaria Labyad, Denys Oliinyk, Bertrand Traore and Renato Ibarra available for the wing positions.
