Vitesse Arnhem continued their good start to the season with a simple 3-0 victory over Excelsior in Rotterdam.

The hosts began the game brightly with Zakaria El Azzouzi heading a corner just wide, but as the half wore on Vitesse started to take control. It seemed that Excelsior were going to hold the visitors back before half time, but in the 45th minute, goalkeeper Ögmundur Kristinsson missed a corner and Luc Castaignos was on hand to net his first goal for Vitesse.

Eight minutes into the second half, Jeffry Fortes was penalised for bringing down Alexander Buttner and Tim Matavz stroked in the resulting penalty to make it 2-0.

Excelsior then created several chances to get back into the game but El Azzouzi missed an open goal before Jurgen Mattheij hit the woodwork. Bryan Linssen then sealed victory for Vitesse with a wonderful strike into the top corner from around 40 yards.

Vitesse now sit third in the table while Excelsior are down in 12th.
