Vitesse Arnhem eased to a 2-0 victory over Groningen on Friday evening.

The home side began the game strongly and quickly took the lead after only five minutes when Matt Miazga rose to head in unchallenged from close range.

Groningen then lost midfielder Ludovit Reis to a knee injury and just after half an hour, it was 2-0 for Vitesse. Mitchell Van Bergen picked out Mason Mount in the box and the midfielder swept the ball into the bottom corner.

Vitesse continued to dominate in the second half with Tim Matavz sending a header just wide before Bryan Linssen went close. Roy Beerens then came on for his Vitesse debut on the hour mark.

Just before the end, Lars Veldwijk missed a glorious chance to pull one back and Vitesse comfortably saw out the game to claim the three points.

Vitesse remain in sixth after the win while Groningen are 13th.
